How to be Content in Daily Life

be content

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. (1 Timothy 6)

  • Be thankful. Think of something that you can be thankful for in your life. It doesn’t have to be a grand thing. It can be as simple as being able to get out of bed and move around. Reflect on different things that you are thankful for throughout the day and dwell on those mostly. This will help you to be content.
  • Pray. Pour out your worries, concerns, troubles, uncertainties and open up yourself to the peace that that comes from God. Peace helps us to be content.
  • Cut back your social media usage. It may not be healthy to be consuming images on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube and all the rest daily. Do that or filter the kind of content you expose yourself to. If anything you consume cause negative emotions to well up and take a hold on you cut it off.
  • Read, watch or listen to uplifting content. Make a playlist of songs that lift you and motivate you. Indulge in those things that help you to be content and do so regularly.
  • Dance and go a bit crazy to get your heart pumping and enjoy something simple. Turn the volume up and let go…
  • Be still. Find a quiet place even if it is in the bathroom at work to take a break for a few minutes. Stretch, shake from side to side, LOL for no reason or shout out the frustration and make room for contentment.
  • Forgive. It is sometimes hard to say sorry and mean it. Dig deep.
  • Ignore some people. You know those who come to steal your joy. Find a way to stay away from all kinds of negative vibes. To be content means not being a social butterfly in some cases.
  • Have someone or a few people who you can pour out your heart to. Humans are not solitary beings and yes some of us can’t be trusted with confidential information but some of us can be.
  • Be happy with who you are. Get professional help if needed. Invest in yourself, you are worth it.
  • Live a balanced life. Live on a budget but treat yourself to things you like from time to time. Budget for your treats. Ain’t no sense piling up money in the bank and not enjoying some of it.
  • Make time to connect with people face to face. We need to connect with people meaningfully, this helps us to be content. No man is an island and all that…
  • Learn to love your life at the stage where you are now. You may not be where you are now but coveting someone else’s life brings nothing but bitterness and discontent. See the first bullet point above. We always have many things to be thankful for.
  • Learn to love your own company. Make time to be alone and commune with yourself. Sleep, lounge around, listen to podcasts, blog, paint, make crafts or just be content by yourself.
  • Remind yourself of your awesome qualities. “You are beautifully and wonderfully made.”
  • Take yourself out to eat sometimes. Celebrate yourself and give to others from whatever bounty you may have.
  • Learn to be content by practicing it daily and be at peace. You are worth it.
